NATIONAL RECYLClING AWARDS                                                               JULY 2011

Fife Council Building Services picked up the prize for Electrical and Electronic Equipment Recycler of the Year at the National Recycling Awards,

The award was given for a project which involved great teamwork from the surveying team, electrical team, procurement team and the sustainability co-ordinator, working in partnership with the supplier (AICO) to redesign a sustainable smoke detector, but also for the supplier to take back removed smoke detectors for refurbishment.  This diverted 1000's of potentially harmful products from landfill and has been very innovative and 'green' in also allowing the plastic, polymer part of the removed units to be recycled into a plastic wood product called Ecosheet.  This product can be used on various different applications including furniture, displayboards and hoardings.
